Seamless gutters in plain terms
Gutters are the least glamorous part of a roof and one of the most consequential. Their whole job is to take a large volume of water arriving fast and move it away from the foundation. When they fail they do not fail dramatically. They overflow in the same spot every storm, soaking the fascia, running behind the drip edge and saturating the ground against the slab. Two years later somebody is looking at rotten fascia, a stained soffit and a foundation crack, and the gutter is rarely blamed.
Seamless means the run is fabricated on site, in one continuous piece, from coil stock fed through a forming machine on the driveway. Sectional gutter, the kind sold in ten-foot lengths, has a joint every ten feet, and every joint is a place that will eventually leak because the metal expands and contracts through a Texas summer and no sealant holds indefinitely. Seamless gutters have joints only at corners and outlets, which is a fraction of the failure points.
The other half of the job is sizing and layout, and it is the half that gets skipped. Capacity is a function of the roof area draining into the run, the pitch of that roof and the local rainfall intensity. Northeast Texas gets short, extremely heavy storms rather than gentle all-day rain, which means peak flow rate matters far more here than annual rainfall does. A five inch gutter with too few downspouts will overflow in a hard storm no matter how well it is hung.
Fascia is worth mentioning up front, because it is where most gutter jobs turn out to be two jobs. The gutter hangs from the fascia board, and if that board has been soaked by an overflowing gutter for a couple of seasons it is soft, with nothing sound to screw a hanger into. We check it before quoting and price any repair separately and visibly, because hanging new gutter on bad timber is money spent twice.
Aluminum is what we fit and it is the right material for almost every house here. It does not rust, it takes a baked-on finish that holds color for decades, it is light enough to hang without heavy structure behind it, and it is inexpensive enough to replace outright rather than nurse along. Copper exists and looks superb on the right period property, at several times the cost. Vinyl goes brittle under this much UV and sags between hangers in summer heat, so it is not something we recommend in this climate.

Five inch or six inch, and why it matters
Five inch is the standard residential size and it is adequate for a great many houses. Six inch carries roughly forty percent more water and takes a larger downspout, and the point at which it becomes the right answer is not a matter of taste. It is the roof area draining into that run, the pitch feeding it, and how much rain falls in the worst ten minutes rather than across the year.
That last part is what makes Northeast Texas different. The National Weather Service office in Fort Worth records the storms that matter here as short and intense rather than long and steady, and a gutter sized for average rainfall will still overflow in the storm that actually causes damage. We size for the peak, which sometimes means six inch on one elevation and five on another.
Downspout count matters as much as gutter size and gets less attention. A long run with a single outlet at one end has to move all its water the full length of the house before it can leave, and in a hard storm it simply cannot. Adding an outlet is less expensive than upsizing the whole run and often solves the problem outright, which is the sort of thing an assessment should tell you before you pay for the larger gutter.

Where the water goes after it leaves the downspout
A gutter system that collects water perfectly and then discharges it against the slab has moved the problem two feet rather than solved it. Downspouts need to discharge far enough out that the water runs away from the foundation, and on flat lots around Sulphur Springs that often means an extension or a buried run rather than a splash block.
This is the part homeowners notice least and foundation contractors notice most. Repeated saturation of the soil immediately against a slab is one of the routine causes of the movement that shows up later as cracked brick and doors that stop closing. It is a great deal less expensive to get the discharge right than to deal with what follows.
The other half is grading. If the ground falls toward the house, no downspout extension will fully fix it, and we will say so rather than sell you gutter that cannot solve the problem. Seamless against sectional, in practice
Sectional gutter is sold in ten-foot lengths and joined on site, which means a joint roughly every ten feet along every run. Each joint is sealed, and every seal is a consumable. Through a Texas summer the aluminum expands and contracts daily, working at those seals until one of them starts to weep. It usually shows as a stain on the fascia below rather than as an obvious drip.
Seamless gutters are formed from a single coil on site, so a forty foot run is one continuous piece of metal with joints only at the corners and outlets. That is not a marketing distinction, it is a straightforward reduction in the number of things that can fail, and it is why seamless has become the default on residential work.
The practical trade-off is that seamless has to be fabricated at the house, which means the machine and the crew come to you. For a straightforward single-story home that is a half day. It also means the runs are cut to your actual fascia lengths rather than to whatever combination of stock lengths comes closest.

What actually moves the price on seamless gutters
On an average home, seamless gutters typically run about $1,500 to $4,000, and the biggest single factor is the linear footage, followed by the gutter size and the number of downspouts. The total run length around the house is the base of the number, measured elevation by elevation rather than estimated from the footprint.

Downspouts are priced individually. More of them is often the less expensive way to solve an overflow than upsizing the gutter.

Hanging On Soft Fascia
New gutter screwed into timber that has already been soaked will pull away, usually within a season, and the fix costs more than the repair would have.
Too Few Downspouts
A long run with one outlet cannot move storm water fast enough, no matter how well the gutter itself is made.
No Fall To The Outlet
A run hung dead level holds water and silt, which adds weight and grows the sort of debris that blocks the outlet.
Discharging At The Slab
Collecting the water correctly and then putting it against the foundation moves the problem rather than solving it.

Northeast Texas averages somewhere in the mid-forties of inches of rain a year, but the number that matters is how much of it arrives at once. Spring storms here drop a great deal of water in a short window, which is why undersized seamless gutters overflow in April and behave perfectly in October.
